HYDERABAD: The Sindh Universities Officers Federation (SUOF) has expressed dismay over delays in providing the officers representation in the syndicates of public sector universities and has requested the provincial universities and boards secretary to take up the matter. Through a letter on Monday, the federation's chairperson, Muhammad Tahir Khan, drew the secretary's attention towards delay in enforcement of Sindh Universities and Institutes Law (Amendment) Bill, 2018.

The new law provides for representation of officers in the syndicate which was previously denied to them. "There is a delay in the election on this constituency in various universities without any reason," said Khan, while requesting the secretary to direct all the universities to conduct elections to elect officers to the syndicate, which is the law-making body.

Khan told The Express Tribune that only one public sector university in the province had implemented the law. He added that Karachi University had issued a notification for the election which has not been held so far. He informed that SUOF will hold a meeting of its provincial chapter in Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro district, on Tuesday to decide the future course of action.
