Speaking to The Express Tribune on Sunday, he said the two were fighting their cases in the courts and do not want any problems, adding that they do not want to offend certain stakeholders.
The governor said the silence should not be misconstrued as resulting from for a deal. He shared that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was giving time to the incumbent government so it can function and deliver on the promises made to the people before elections.
With regard to change in Nawaz Sharif’s narrative, he said that Nawaz and Maryam would not change their narrative. He said that narrative was adopted in view of the general elections.
Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz had resorted to silence since the suspension of their sentence in the Avenfield case back in September. Their silence was perceived in political circles as an outcome of a ‘deal with certain quarters’.
The PML-N associated the duo’s silence with the death of former premier’s wife, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz who died on September 11.
They said the two would observe a 40 days period of grief. However, Nawaz and Maryam continued to remain silent after the lapse of 40 days, negating the stand of the party.
Earlier, former provincial minister Rana Mashud said Nawaz and Maryam had struck a deal with establishment. PML-N had quickly rejected his claim and initiated an inquiry process against him on October 3. The inquiry had not produced any results.
Earlier in the month, Senator Pervaiz Rashid maintained that narrative of the duo annoyed certain individuals due to which they were keeping their silence.
Referring to the silence of Nawaz and Maryam, PML-N senior leader Rana Sanaullah said that the two were not silent out of any fear adding that leaders of their stature do not speak without any reason.
He said they will address the public when the party would have to run a campaign against the government. He added that they would address the public at the politically correct time.
