Retired DIG gunned down in Quetta

Police says the attackers opened fire while the ex-DIG was coming out from a mosque in the area

QUETTA: Former Crime Branch DIG Naeem Kakar was shot dead on Saturday by unidentified assailants on the motorbike in Quetta’s Junior Assistant Colony.

According to Civil Lines police, the attackers opened fire while the ex-DIG was coming out from a mosque in the area.

“The armed men on motorbike fled after the attack. Kakar succumbed to injuries while being treated at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH),” police said.

A heavy contingent of law enforcement agencies rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.

The police said the group had immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Police lodged an FIR against unknown persons and beefed up security arrangements in Quetta to trace the perpetrators of the murder.
