Aamir Khan to play Forrest Gump in Bollywood remake
Actor has reportedly bought the rights of the 1994 film from Robert Zimeckis
Tom Hanks' Oscar-winning film, Forrest Gump is considered to be one of the most iconic films of all time. While the actor's stellar performance in the 1994 blockbuster will go down in history, there have never been talks about a possible sequel. However, if recent reports are to be believed, the box office hit is all set for a Bollywood remake.
According to Pinkvilla, Aamir Khan has supposedly purchased the rights to Robert Zemeckis' masterpiece. Rumour also has it that the Dangal star will be teaming up with his Secret Superstar director Advait Chandan on the project.
The superstar's last release, Thugs Of Hindostan failed to impress audiences, also opening to not so favourable reviews. However, it still excelled at the box office.
The report further adds that Aamir, who was supposed to begin work on Mahabharata and Mogul, has kept these projects aside. His main focus now remains the Forrest Grump remake.
As Aamir reportedly gears up for one of the most challenging roles of his career, his performance in Rajkumar Hirani's PK seems eerily similar to Tom's character in the Academy-winning film. So, this might just work out well for him.
Forrest Gump starred Tom as the protagonist alongside Robert Wright and Gary Sinise. The film was based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom, that revolved around several decades in the life of its character (Hanks), a simpleton from Albama.
The film emerged as one of the biggest flicks of 1994. It went on to win the Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Visual Effects and Best Film Editing. Hanks also bagged the accolade for Best Actor. It also earner many other awards and nominations including Golden Globes, People's Choice Awards, and Young Artist Awards.
