Naqeebullah murder case: Absconding suspects appear before ATC
Court grants bail against a surety of 0.2m each
KARACHI:
The three absconding suspects in Naqeebullah murder case appeared before the anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday in Karachi Central Jail.
The investigation officer, SP Dr Rizwan, had been telling the ATC that the suspects had gone into hiding and police was conducting raids to trace them. The three suspects, Muhammad Anar, Faisal Mehmood and Khair Muhammad, however, obtained bail from Hyderabad High Court and reached the trial court.
The suspects’ lawyer, Advocate Abidul Zaman, argued that his clients had obtained protective bail from Hyderabad High Court and wanted to face the case, for which they appeared before court. On this basis, he argued that bail should be confirmed.
The ATC approved the interim bail of the suspects and ordered them to submit a surety of 0.2m each. The court adjourned the hearing till November 19.
The Sindh High Court, on the request of Naqeebullah’s father, had transferred the case from ATC no. 2 to court no. 3. The father accused the previous judge of bias in the proceedings of bail granted to Malir SSP Rao Anwar and DSP Qamar.
