Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said on Thursday that the government is in contact with the US on the issue of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, Express News reported.

"Pakistan's Consul General in Houston has met Dr Aafia 12 times in the past 3 months," said Faisal.

"The Pakistani government is in contact with the US government on the matter."

The Senate also passed a unanimous resolution for Dr Aafia's release during its session on Thursday.

Dr Fauzia Siddiqui calls on foreign minister


Jamiat Ulema Islam-F (JUI F) Senator Talha Mehmood presented the resolution. The resolution states that the government should immediately talk to the US government regarding her release.

On the directions of the Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani, the resolution will also be forwarded to the FO and urge the office to take the necessary steps to implement the resolution.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi met with Dr Fauzia Siddiqui on Wednesday.

During the meeting, FM Qureshi informed Dr Fauzia about the government’s ongoing efforts and also exchanged views about bringing Dr Aafia back to Pakistan.

The foreign minister also issued special instructions to Pakistan’s Consul General in Houston regarding Dr Afia Siddiqi’s matter, and ensure her well being in line with her legal and human rights.
