With the winter season knocking at the doors, there's an excitement to bring out the warm jackets, cosy hoodies and to feel the cold winds. But like every good night, this also comes with a price. The winter season tends to promote dry hair and various dandruff problems. However, you can reduce your worries and follow these six tips to make your hair look good while you style yourselves in dark colours, reported Business Standard.

1. Get a hot oil massage

Getting a hot oil massage once a week - using either coconut or almond oil - will be a breather for the scalp. This will help prevent a dry and flaky head and improve your blood circulation resulting into nourishing hair this winter.

2. Go for a trim

Trimming is essential for healthy hair, regardless of the weather. However, the follicles tend to worsen during the winter. Cool air can cause hair to become dry and brittle which can lead to breakage and split ends. Trimming ends regularly will stop hair from breaking.

3. Opt for deep conditioning

Make sure to invest in a good, deep conditioner. It's a very important step after shampooing. During winter, your focus should be on deep conditioners as the magic formula will keep the dryness away from your scalp.

4. Make a hair mask

Just like the different types of masks we use on our skin, hair masks have become one of the hottest beauty trends right now. Cold weather is the cause for dry scalp and one should keep it hydrated. Combine one egg yolk with a cup of honey. Mix it well so it becomes a smooth paste and then massage your locks with it for 30 minutes. Wash it away with regular shampoo and you're good to go.

5. Avoid overwashing

Steer clear from washing your hair everyday in winter. Daily washing will soak the hair's natural oil and make it hair look dull, unhealthy and without any moisture. Wash it only twice a week for a frizz-free mane.

6. Protective styling

Cover up your head as much as possible during the colder months. Tucking your hair away will eliminate damage and dryness caused by the weather. Styles such as buns, wigs, weaves and head scarves should be your best friend this season. But make sure your hair is hydrated and conditioned before tucking it away.
