Speeding claims lives of six milkmen

At least 10 people died and 993 were injured in 988 road traffic crashes in the province during the last 24 hours

At least six people died and 19 suffered injuries when a mini truck overturned in Sundar on Tuesday.

According to the police, the victims, who lived in Bombay Village, were milkmen carrying their supplies to the city. Just as they neared Bahria Orchard Gate No5, the truck overturned. As a result, all those travelling on the truck suffered injuries.

A victim told The Express Tribune that a speeding van passed near the truck and the driver tried to save the vehicle, but it overturned.

The injured were shifted to THQ Hospital Raiwind where doctors pronounced four of them dead, while two of them died during treatment at the hospital. Some of the deceased people and injured were identified as Muhammad Khalid,  Zubair, Mobeen,  Nasir, Kasim Ali, Attiqur Rehman,  Latif, Mukhtar, Muhammad Tufail, Farhad Ali, Sabir, Farzand Ali, Ramzan, Sanaullah, Zubair  Sultan, Jameel, Muhammad Sharif, Yasin Majid, Fazal Din, Waqar Fazal Din, and Ghulam Hussain.


Causalities due to road traffic accidents are a serious issue. Over 420 people had died last year in road traffic accidents.  Besides, about 900 road traffic accidents are reported in the province on a daily basis.

 At least 10 people died and 993 were injured in 988 road traffic crashes in all 37 districts of the province over the last 24 hours.

Out of the total injured, 577 were seriously wounded while 406 suffered minor injuries and were treated at the site of the incident.

At least 74 % accidents involved motorbikes while further analysis showed 411 drivers, 22 underage drivers, 139 pedestrians and 443 passengers were among the victims of these road traffic crashes. The statistics show that 235 road traffic accidents were reported in Lahore which affected 230 persons.
