Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General Amna Imran Khan has ordered the computerisation of records related to all property litigation cases. She ordered the development of software to link the Law Directorate with other directorates and wings of the authority.

LDA Additional Director General (Headquarters) Abdul Shakoor Rana disclosed this while chairing the LDA’s weekly performance review meeting on Monday. He said the new software will provide the up-to-date status(es) of cases being heard by various courts.

He directed officers of the Law Directorate to acquire comprehensive knowledge of relevant laws so they can draft replies to court cases with complete preparation. He also ordered the posting of a full time director for the further revamp of records.

Shakoor underscored the need to equip field staff with necessary machinery and vehicles to carry out the operation against illegal construction and encroachment.  He ordered all directors to compile lists of residential, commercial vacant and encroached plots in their respective schemes. He asked them to finalise these lists within a week so that a comprehensive policy could be formulated for the utility of the properties.

The LDA additional DG further ordered creating an inventory of vacant public utility, school and health sites, which had been allotted a long time ago, but lay vacant or had no purpose-built structure.

He highlighted that a progress review meeting will be held every week. “All directors should personally supervise tasks assigned to their staff and monitor the functioning of subordinate officials.” The meeting was attended by all the directors of estate management, land development, town planning, commercialisation and recovery directorates.

The city developer also conducted an operation against the illegal excavation of land in the authority’s new residential scheme, LDA City, and registered five FIRs with the Kahna Naou Police Station. The LDA director told officers to deal with those stealing earth and gravel with an iron hand and to safeguard LDA property by all possible means.

Meanwhile, the district administration continued its operation against encroachments and illegal construction in the city. All assistant commissioners conducted operations in their jurisdictions. Assistant Commissioner Shalimar Ali Akbar supervised an operation and removed illegal encroachments from both sides of the road. During the operation, 40 concrete ramps and five tandoors were demolished. The district administration also removed temporary encroachments at Daroghanwala Chowk. Similarly, an Aziz Bhatti Zone official, in collaboration with revenue and police department teams, removed encroachments from Landa Bazaar and Band Road.

Lahore Deputy Commissioner Saliha Saeed said the district administration would conduct an operation against encroachments at Miani Sahib Graveyard after consulting the revenue record. She visited the graveyard, along with other officials such as Assistant Commissioner City Safdar Virk and AD Local Government Afzal Rehan.

The DC was briefed about encroachments in the graveyard apart from security and cleanliness arrangements. She formed a committee under the assistant commissioner city and assured residents of nearby colonies that the district administration would remove encroachments on priority.
