During the course of the last few days, Southern California was engulfed in blazing flames which forced several celebrities as well as commoners to leave their homes.

Many were hoping for their houses to be spared, however, not all of them were lucky. Still grateful to have survived the fire at least, some Hollywood stars returned to burnt down mansions, reported NBC News.

While posting a picture of a destroyed vehicle and scorched structure on Instagram, Gerard Butler who resides in Malibu said, “Returned to my house after evacuating. It’s a heartbreaking time across California but I am inspired as ever by the courage, spirit and sacrifice of firefighters.” He then shared a video that showed bits and pieces of his house, which had turned to ashes.

Likewise, singer Robin Thicke’s property was completely destroyed too. The 41-year-old also thanked firefighters for keeping his wife and children safe during such a dangerous time.

Caitlyn Jenner was one of the lucky celebrities whose house survived the fire. She said, “Our house made it! But it was devastating out here in Malibu. The hills are just totally scorched – fried to say the least. We're very, very lucky."

Other stars including Orlando Bloom, Alyssa Milano and Lady Gaga were also among the evacuees. Some knew that their homes were safe for the time being while waiting for a chance to return. Others were still not sure if their houses survived as they shared pictures of smoke engulfing their area of residence.

The strong wildfire that started on Thursday night has killed 31 people and ruined at least 6700 structures making its way to Malibu, Calabasas, Agoura Hills and nearby areas. Currently, the fire has only been contained by 25%. Residents have been warned to keep themselves safe till the end of the week.
