QUETTA:
A woman and her newborn baby girl died at the District Headquarter (DHQ) Hospital Nushki on Sunday, with their relatives blaming the ‘untrained and negligent’ hospital staff for the deaths.

According to doctors at the DHQ hospital, the pregnant woman was brought to the hospital in the early hours of Sunday in a critical condition and died due to excessive loss of blood.

The relatives of the deceased protested against the hospital administration over the “non-availability of a senior female gynecologist”.

However, the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Zafar Mengal, refuted the allegations and said the whole staff was present at the time, including a senior female gynecologist. He said the patient was brought to the hospital in a critical condition, having lost a lot of blood.

“We told the family to arrange the matching blood, but that got delayed and resulted in the death of the woman and the baby girl she brought forth,” said Mengal.

In the wake of the incident, Deputy Commissioner Nushki Abdul Razzaq reached the hospital and assured the protesters that the district administration would constitute a probe committee to find out the culprits.

On the deputy commissioner’s assurance, the protesters called off their protest.
