Roohi Bano's sister denies actor's disappearance
Rubina Begum revealed family will soon bring award-winning star in front of the media
LAHORE:
News regarding the sudden disappearance of famous TV artist Roohi Bano surfaced all over the internet this week. While some speculated that the award-winning star had run away from Lahore's mental health institution Fountain House, others claimed she had gone back to live with her family.
According to Bano's sister Rubina Begum, the latter holds true. "My sister is okay and we will soon bring her in front of the media," Begum told The Expres Tribune. "She is happily staying with her brother in his home."
Roohi was previously diagnosed with schizophrenia and had been staying at Fountain House for treatment. However, reports suggest that Rubina had her discharged last year but Roohi still visits the institute for regular check-ups. Nonetheless, the administration team at Fountain House have provided that she has not been back for any treatments in the recent past. "Many of the patients at Fountain House have been missing Roohi Bano but her sister never responds," said a Fountain House senior official.
The President’s Pride of Performance Award holder has seen many tragedies which took a toll on her mental health. Two unsuccessful marriages and the murder of her son Ali, who was shot dead at 24, led to her depression.
Back in early 2016, when she was first admitted at Fountain House, Roohi alleged that her family members, especially Begum, were trying to steal the official documentation for her properties in Karachi and Lahore. However, her sister denied any such claims. "There is no reality in these allegations. People and the media should not take any interest in this matter as it is a family affair," Rubina stated.
Once a star, Roohi Bano is now alone and unwell
During her time at the institution, sources state Roohi was adamant that her family was trying to steal from her. They further suggest that Rubina had her discharged from Fountain House and kept her at home to keep her quiet. "Roohi Bano has very expensive land in Lahore and Karachi. It's very sad to see that her biggest issue after the death of her only son is to keep her family away from stealing the property. However, she is a brave lady and I know she will not give up," a family member shared, requesting anonymity. Roohi was unreachable to comment.
