VC Appointments: Court unhappy over AG’s absence

The judge had to adjourn the hearing for Thursday.

LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday expressed its resentment with non appearance of the Punjab advocate general in the court in a petition challenging the process of appointment of vice chancellors (VC) for six public universities. The judge adjourned the hearing for Thursday (tomorrow). The judge also ordered an assistant advocate general appearing before the court to give copies of his replies to the petitioners’ counsel and ordered the counsel to file their rejoinders. Petitioner Dr Hassan Amir Shah said that he had applied for the post of a VC. He said the search committee had changed the criteria and accorded preferences to foreign qualified candidates only. He also objected to the composition of the search committee and said that it had no clear rules or policy for selection and appointment of its members. The Punjab government had already filed its reply saying that the petitioner was not called for the interview because he did not meet the criteria.
