ISLAMABAD:
The issue of expelling an official from the Comsats institute by its acting rector has reached the courts with notices being issued to respondents with directions to submit a reply.

The directives were issued by a bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) led by Justice Mian Gul Aurangzeb as he heard a petition over the expulsion of sub-engineer Basit Mehmood Paracha from the institute by Comsats acting rector Dr Raheel Omar.

During Wednesday’s hearing, the petitioner’s lawyers Usman Anwar and Qaiser Jan argued that Paracha had been appointed in the varsity in 2008 and was expelled from the university in 2017.

They added that during his service, the institution was deducting an amount under GP fund from his salary while he was also entitled to a pension upon retirement.

The lawyers further contended that his expulsion was contrary to the directives of the Supreme Court, hence the court was urged to overturn the impugned orders and restore him to his post.

The court issued notices to the respondents and adjourned the case.

Lawyers must prepare well

In an event organised by the Islamabad High Court Bar Association on Wednesday, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani of the IHC stressed that the bar and the bench have strong ties with each other.

He, however, urged lawyers to prepare well for their appearance in court.

In a nod to the firestorm which arose after a judge of the court appeared in the last event of the bar association, Justice Kiyani suggested that they have to move forward together for the progress of the IHC.

Justice Amir Farooq, Justice Aurangzeb also participated in the ceremony.
