Two-week drive: RCB lifts 7,000 tonnes of garbage

Awareness walk participants vow to keep their area clean

Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) two-week cleanliness drive ended on Tuesday with an awareness walk.

“RCB, during the cleanliness drive, shifted 7,000 tonnes of garbage to duping site,” said Deputy Cantonment Executive Officer Seerat Asghar.

She was talking to the media after the walk. The walk started from Bank Road Saddar ended at Kashmir Road. Deputy Cantonment Executive Officer Seerat Asghar, Chief Sanitary Inspector Waris Bhatti, students, representatives of traders, elected members of RCB and citizens from different walks of life attended the walk.

President of Markazi Anjamun Tajiran Cantt Sheikh Hafeez, General Secretary Zafar Qadri, members of cantonment board Malik Usman and Malik Mansoor Afsar were prominent among the participants.

At the end of the walk, the traders’ body announced prizes for the sanitation staff.

Asghar said that the process for giving winter uniform to sanitary staff has started.

People cleaning up the cantonment early in the morning during chilly weather will get warm clothing to perform their duries with ease, she said. In the coming days, the entire sanitation staff will be provided warm clothes so that they can remain safe from the cold and dispense their professional duties.

At the end of the walk the participants praised RCB for lifting over 7,000 tonnes of garbage. They also commended the cleanings staff and the role of the sanitation officers. On this occasion, the participants of the walk expressed the resolve to play their role to keep RCB area clean so that the citizens can have the right to live in an environment free of diseases.

During the cleanliness march, the participants were carrying placards and banners to promote cleanliness and hygiene.


Addressing the participants, the speakers said, "It is our collective responsibility to play an active role in keeping our surroundings clean.

We keep our homes clean. Similarly, we must keep the streets in front of our houses and the city clean. The city is also our home and instead of looking at others to keep our house clean we must do it ourselves."

They called upon the citizens to take responsibility for making efforts of the civic body for cleanliness successful. Waris Bhatti informed that RCB, Sanitation Department Staff removed over 1,374 tonnes of garbage during the last three days under its special two-week long cleanliness campaign which concluded today.

During the drive which started on October 23, the workers removed garbage from residential and commercial areas falling in its jurisdiction. Parks and graveyards were also being cleaned, he added.

He said an awareness campaign regarding cleanliness was launched and the residents were urged to play their role to keep Cantt areas clean. Pamphlets were also being distributed among traders, motorists and residents.

The RCB spokesman said that all out efforts were made to create awareness among the residents about cleanliness, so that they could play their role in this regard.

He called upon the residents to extend full cooperation to the civic body and put garbage in dustbins placed in various areas.
