RAWALPINDI: A jail warder, who had a heated argument with some inmates, was apparently stopped and thrashed by associates of the inmates outside the jail.

A formal complaint about the incident has been lodged at the Adiala police checkpoint, though the victim has yet to undergo a medical examination to confirm assault.

According to the complaint, filed by Adiala Central Jail Superintendent Mansoor Akbar, warder Sohail Hayat had had an argument with some inmates in the jail the other day.

The inmates, however, managed to get the word out to their associates outside the prison who managed to intercept Hayat as he travelled along the Adiala Road.

They launched an orchestrated assault on Hayat and beat him up.

The jail official, however, managed to escape from the grasp of his assailants.

Later, the Adiala superintendent lodged a formal complaint with the Adiala police about the assault.
