LAHORE:

Unidentified armed men shot and killed Station House Officer (SHO) Zahid Mehmood, his driver and a gunman near Muridke on Monday.

Mehmood lived in Muridke, a tehsil of district Sheikhupura, at least 40 kilometers away from Lahore. He was posted at Rang Mahal police station. On the day of the incident, he along with his gunman Pappu and driver Aslam left for duty. As they neared GT Road, unidentified men opened fire at them. As a result, the three of them suffered bullet injuries and later died. The suspects fled from the crime scene.

Locals informed the police teams who reached the scene and collected forensic evidence before recording the statements of eyewitnesses.

Police said that the victim was killed by his opponents over an old-enmity. Around five years ago, his family had a dispute over a cable network contract, the cops said. They added that at least 10 people from both groups, including the victim's brother and nephew, had lost their lives in the feud.
