‘Not every condition requires invasive surgery’

Informative seminar was jointly organised by Express Media Group and AO Clinic

KARACHI: Pakistan has the most advanced facilities for trauma and orthopedic surgery and soon, microscopic surgery will be introduced in the country too. This was stated by the managing director of AO Clinic Dr Syed Imran Ali Shah at a seminar on Sunday.

The seminar was organised by the Express Media Group and AO Clinic and sponsored by High-Q Pharmaceutical Company, Barrett Hodgson University and Searle Pharmaceuticals. It aimed to raise awareness about the latest trends in orthopedic and trauma surgeries and the available facilities in the country.



"Not every disease or condition requires invasive surgery," said Dr Shah, adding that the treatment is formulated based on the patient's needs.

The seminar was attended by Dr Umar Butt, Dr Athar Muneeruddin Siddiqui, Dr Salman Karmani, Dr Shazia Khan Shah, orthopedic surgeons, general physicians and young doctors.

The panel comprising medical experts spoke to the participants, including young doctors and physicians, about sports injuries, complex trauma, osteoporosis and hereditary diseases.

Dr Shah stressed that every doctor and surgeon faces difficulties when patients cannot communicate their condition properly, adding that doctors should be careful to inform the patient about the necessary preventive measures after a surgery.



With regard to the AO Clinic's performance, he said that the private hospital opened as a 25-bed facility and could now accommodate 110 beds.

Dr Shah, who is a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MPA, said that he would get legislation approved for the prevention of use of unnecessary antibiotics and suspension of registration of doctors responsible for deliberate wrongs in surgery.
