KARACHI:
T10 League franchise Karachians are hopeful that they can open more opportunities for the people of Karachi.
Karachians will make its debut appearance in the second edition of the T10 League — which begins on November 21 in Sharjah.
The team launched their jersey, theme song through a colourful ceremony in Karachi where the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s newly formed cricket committee Mohsin Hasan Khan was also present as the chief guest.
Speaking on this occasion, Mohsin said that he was convinced with the plan of Karachians for the cricketers in the City of Lights.
“Their plan is quite impressive, the management came to me and explained all about their plan that didn’t take me long to be convinced,” he said while talking to The Express Tribune. “They have a good future plan for the young players of Karachi. As the cricket game is getting faster and faster, this format has gained much attention globally and after the International Cricket Council (ICC) approved this league, many big players have roped in which is good for the growth of this format.”
Former Test cricketer Shoaib Mohammad was also amongst the guests during the ceremony. He said that in terms of entertainment, this is the best format for the spectators.
“After the T20 cricket began, many fans rediscovered their interest in the game. This is the best format for fans who do not have much time but want to enjoy the game,” he said.
He added that the inclusion of team from Karachi makes this tournament even more exciting.
“This has also given hope to the players in the city who don’t get many chances to get into the game,” he said. “Karachi has a rich history tape-ball cricket during Ramadan and other occasions, and I am sure that Karachi will give many players to this league.”
Meanwhile Karachians Owner Mohammad Imran was happy with the response from the fans.
“It is great to see that everyone is welcoming Karachians,” he said. “The love and enthusiasm is surreal and makes us feel very proud on making the right choice of the team, our logo symbolizes Karachi – the City of Lights and the love for cricket possessed by its people.”
Talking about the number of Pakistani players in the side, he said: “We didn’t have many options as majority of the players were already associated with other teams but we are hopeful that our performance will be top notch in the debut appearance.”
Left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz — who is part of the current squad of Karachians — is also looking forward to putting up a good show during the event.
“I am very excited to be a part of the Karachians and looking forward to showcase my skills along with my teammates — which features star international cricketers from around the world,” said Nawaz. “It is a proud moment for us as well as for the people of Karachi whom we will be representing at the 2018 T10 League.”
It must be noted that former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson is the captain and also the icon player of the team.
The team will also be featuring Australia’s Ben Cutting, England’s Jofra Archer and India’s Zaheer Khan. Apart from Mohammad Nawaz, Pakistan pacer Mohammad Irfan is also representing the franchise.
