SSGC issues notices for stopping supply
Industries and trade bodies have express their reservations

In view of the gas supply situation in winter, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has said that it has issued notices to its captive power customers, requesting them to make alternative arrangements to run their units. Industries and trade bodies have expressed their reservations about the planned suspension of gas supply to them. “SSGC fully understands the situation the captive power customers will find themselves in, but finds it pertinent to explain the rationale behind the planned closure,” the company said in a statement on Thursday. SSGC said it was supplying nearly 359 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas annually to its 2.9 million customers in the franchise provinces of Sindh and Balochistan. “The demand-supply gap of indigenous gas is widening due to the depletion of gas fields and a continuous increase in domestic gas sale.” Presently, it said, there was a shortfall of around 300 mmcfd in gas supply from different fields and the gap would further widen in winter months with three times increase in consumption by the domestic sector.
