ISLAMABAD:
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) on Thursday reduced the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by Rs15 per kg for the month of November.

Following the price reduction, All Pakistan LPG Distributors Association Chairman Irfan Khokhar said domestic cylinder would be sold for Rs1,509 instead of Rs1,673 earlier and commercial cylinder would be available at Rs5,805 instead of Rs6,478 earlier across the country.

Describing the price reduction as significant, Khokhar said the downward revision in LPG rates was possible due to "prudent policies of the government".

He expressed confidence that in winter this year consumers would get uninterrupted LPG supply, especially in far-flung areas, at controlled rates. He praised the government for effectively tackling the mafia which had been making money by black-marketing the commodity in the winter season. The chairman warned that strict action would be taken against those distributors who were found involved in black-marketing and selling the commodity above the notified rates.

According to a report earlier last month, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is likely to reverse the previous government's decision on regulating LPG prices and plans to switch to a deregulated market. This development comes amid reluctance of public-sector companies to import LPG due to sudden fluctuations in its prices.

According to Petroleum Division officials, the LPG Policy 2016, approved by the Council of Common Interests (CCI), provides that the federal government, from time to time, in consultation with Ogra and relevant stakeholders, will determine the quantity to be imported by public-sector companies.
