QUETTA:
Five labourers were killed and three others injured on Wednesday when unidentified motorcyclists opened fire at them and fled. The incident took place at Gunz area of Gwadar district.

According to official sources, the labourers were targeted while they were working at an under-construction house in a private housing scheme.

The deceased were identified as Naeem Ahmed, Hunzullah from Karachi, Irshad Ali from Sukkur and Muhammad Shakir from Multan. One of the victims could not be identified immediately.

The incident occurred at a time when the three-day Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) is going on in the port city.

District council member Muhammad Asghar confirmed the incident and the number of casualties, and said that automatic weapon had been used in the attack.

Law enforcement agencies reached the crime scene and cordoned off the area and started search operation in the nearby areas. They said the injured were shifted to Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) hospital where they remained critical.

“We have received five bodies and three injured at the GDA hospital,” hospital staff confirmed, adding that all the victims had received multiple bullet injuries on their upper parts of the bodies, resulting in their instant death.

The injured received multiple bullet wounds, according to the staff.

The sources said that the owners of the housing scheme had not arranged any security for the safety of the labourers at the site.

No group has claimed any responsibility for the attack.

In a statement, Balochistan Governor Justice (retd) Amanullah Khan Yasinzai and Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan strongly condemned the attack. The government would not allow anyone to spread fear through such acts in the society, said the statement.

The leaders said it was time to get united to root out terrorism and extremism from the country.

The government had directed law enforcement agencies to take all possible steps to arrest the terrorists involved in the attack.

Home Minister Mir Saleem Khosa also condemned the attack and demanded a report of the incident. “We want to assure the people that the terrorists involved in the killing of laborers would be brought justice,” he added.
