NAB questions Safdar over allotment of contracts to 'favourites'
Former premier's son-in-law being probed for acquiring assets beyond means of income
PESHAWAR:
TheNational Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday questioned Captain (retd) Safdar in cases pertaining to acquiring assets beyond means of income.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader arrived at the anti-graft watchdog’s Peshawar office and NAB sources told The Express Tribune that he is being probed for abuse of power by allotting development contracts to ‘favourites’ in Hazara Division.
“He answered some thirty questions today,” a NAB official said on condition of anonymity. “This is the first time Safdar has appeared before the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter of NAB.”
After the appearance, Safdar refused media’s request to deliberate over the political situation. “I will follow Raisani’s example and skip media questions,” he said.
Safdar along with ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz were released from Adiala jail on September 19 after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended their respective prison sentences in the Avenfield corruption references.
