Cell phone, internet services partially suspended on account of Chehlum

Security beefed up around the country

Cell phone and internet services are partially suspended and pillion riding has been banned in parts of the country as strict security measures are in place on the occasion of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), which is being observed with due solemnity.

Processions are being taken out in cities and towns across the country while congregations are also being held to remember the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions.

Sindh

Foolproof security arrangements have been made for the processions to avoid any untoward incident. In Karachi, the main procession is being brought out from the Nishter Park.

Mobile phone and internet services will be non-operational in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Khairpur, Jacobabad and Shikarpur.

Punjab

In Punjab, the mobile and internet services are suspended in Lahore, Nankana, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Sargodha, Khushab, Toba Tek Singh, Multan, Sahiwal, Okara, Pakpattan and Rahim Yar Khan.

The services are, however, operational in Islamabad. As many as 14,000 policemen would be deployed while 10 companies of Pakistan Army and four companies of Rangers would also be deployed in the capital.

Over 1,200 cops to guard Chehlum processions

The main procession would be taken out from Colonel Maqbool Imambargah, which culminated at the Imambargah Qadeemi after passing through its designated route. The old Imambargah is the central point where all processions gathered from different localities.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P)

In K-P, the districts of Nowshera, Kohat, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan and Abbottabad are devoid of the services.

Balochistan, Azad and Jammu Kashmir

The services are also suspended in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, and various parts of AJK such as Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Mirpur, Haveli and Kotli.
