PM Imran's visit to open new chapter of bilateral ties: Beijing

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson says PM to attend, deliver keynote address at China International Import Expo

ISLAMABAD: Beijing said on Monday that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s upcoming trip to China will provide an opportunity for leaders of the two countries to open a new chapter of bilateral relations.

The statement was made by the spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry Lu Kang while briefing the media on PM Imran’s maiden visit to China scheduled to begin November 2.



The visit will provide an opportunity for the leaders of our two countries to open a new chapter of bilateral relations under new circumstances, said Kang.

PM Imran will hold meetings with the Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Kiqiang to exchange views on cooperation and issues of common interest.

The premier will also attend China International Import Expo in Shanghai from November 5 on the invitation of the Chinese president. Pakistan will participate in the expo as a guest of honour while PM Imran is expected to deliver a keynote address.

Stressing that Islamabad and Beijing were “all-weather strategic cooperative partners”, Lu Kang remarked the friendship was seasoned and enjoyed strong mutual political trust.

He also expressed confidence in bilateral relations surviving changes in international and domestic circumstances.



Both countries have enjoyed frequent high-level bilateral relations and our pragmatic cooperation has deepened as well, he added.

The foreign ministry spokesman added that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) had achieved "a fruitful outcome" and strengthened ties between the two countries.

“We hope the two sides can take this opportunity to deepen across the board cooperation and move forward all-weather cooperative partnership.”
