A woman died due to the alleged negligence of doctors at Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur, The Express Tribune reported. The victim’s relatives lodged a protest against the incident and demanded action against hospital staff.

Majid’s wife Shabana Bibi, a resident of Ali Pur, was brought to a private hospital in the area after she was in pain. Doctors at the hospital operated on the woman. Later, staff told the victim’s relatives to shift her to Victoria Hospital stating that her stomach was full of blood and her condition was critical.

Shabana’s relatives and family members immediately took her to Victoria Hospital but none of the doctors and medical staff on duty tended to the patient. After waiting for three hours, the woman breathed her last.

Victoria Hospital Medical Superintendent Azizur Rehman said that the woman was brought to the hospital in critical condition. “We have appointed senior doctor Bushra Sher Zaman to conduct an inquiry into the incident,” he added.

“As soon as we receive the inquiry report, action will be taken against those involved in the incident,” he maintained.

Earlier, a woman and her unborn child died due to the alleged negligence of doctors at Civil Hospital, Bahawalpur.

Reportedly, Ejaz took his wife Ayesha Bibi to Civil Hospital after she went into labour. At the hospital, doctors told him to take his wife to a private clinic instead. However, Ejaz insisted his wife be admitted to the government hospital as he could not afford a private clinic.

Doctors shifted Ayesha Bibi to a room where she waited two days without any medical help. She was taken to the labour room and given anaesthesia without conducting a proper evaluation which caused her condition to deteriorate rapidly. Later, both the mother and the unborn child died.
