Tax breaks: ETD crackdown on defaulters

140 tax defaulters have already been arrested: ETD spokesperson.

FAISALABAD: The local Excise and Taxation Department (ETD) has announced its decision to initiate a crackdown against property tax defaulters in the district.

On Monday, the ETD issued warrants for over five hundred chronic defaulters with regards to the property tax. An ETD spokesperson told reporters that 140 defaulters have already been arrested in this regard. An ETD team has also been constituted for the arrest of the remaining defaulters.

The official said that the department had also sealed over 1,500 properties for not paying the property tax despite repeated reminders and warnings. ETD officials said that they had already extended payment deadlines four times and would no longer allow any further extension to defaulters with regards to property tax payments.
