Punjab govt hints at lifting ban on transfers of schoolteachers

The Punjab government has hinted at lifting the ban on transfers of schoolteachers and a summary has been approved by the government in this connection.
Punjab School Education Department PRO Farhan Sheikh said the ban on teachers transfer would be lifted in the coming week as the Punjab Education Minister Dr Murad Raas has assured the stakeholders that their demands would be fulfilled. However, he said it was not yet decided how the transfers would be made as the department was still under the process of planning and procedure. It is likely that a notification would be issued in the coming week.
The ban on transfers of schoolteachers was imposed in 2016 while at this time around 50,000 schoolteachers had submitted applications seeking transfers.
The Punjab government has decided to lift the ban on school teachers transfers and in this connection, the summary was approved by Punjab School Education Department while after signature of secretary school education the ban would be lifted and the process of transfers would start across 36 districts of Punjab.
Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) Secretary General Rana Liaquat said the lifting of the ban on transfers was a basic and big demand of schoolteachers. He also pointed out that among thousands of teachers who were seeking transfers, the majority of was female who suffered due to their transfers in different districts. He said the PTU raised the issue several times with the authorities and now it was a big step by the government to lift the ban on transfers.
