Retired colonel’s murder: Police search for motive behind killing

Family busy with funeral, have yet to lodge FIR.

KARACHI:

The police have yet to find the motive behind the killing of a Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) security officer.

Sixty-year-old Mohammad Ali Saqi, a retired Pakistan Army colonel, was shot dead outside the Mahi Nursery near check post No.6 in Malir Cantonment on Sunday night. Initial reports suggested that Saqi was shot thrice but medical reports showed that he was shot once. “He was shot once in the neck at a close range,” said East Zone DIG Captain (retd) Tahir Naveed. “I cannot comment until the investigation is finished,” he added.

Meanwhile, DSP Chaudhry Sohail Faiz told The Express Tribune that initially it seemed that the victim was targeted because the two motorcyclists attacked him as soon as he sat into his car. He said the culprits fired at least thrice but only one bullet hit the victim while the other bullets hit the car windows.

He said the motive has yet to be found since the victim’s family was busy with the burial and the police are waiting for them to register a case. The KESC administration condemned the incident and demanded the arrests of the culprits.
