KARACHI:
Sindh Governor Imran Ismail laid on Thursday the foundation stones of three flyovers to be constructed by the federal government in District Central. The three-lane flyovers will be built at three intersections on Sher Shah Suri Road at an estimated cost of Rs2.14 billion and the work would be completed by March 2019.

The flyovers will be built on both sides of the existing flyovers, already built for the Green Line buses at Sakhi Hasan Chowrangi, Five-Star Chowrangi, and KDA Chowrangi in North Nazimabad. The new flyovers will run parallel to the existing ones and will be for general traffic.

Malir 15 Flyover finally completed after five years

After the construction of these flyovers, a 15-kilometre (km) signal-free corridor will be formed for general traffic commuting from Abdullah Morr in Surjani Town to Lasbela and vice versa. The corridor will be signal-free all the way from Abdullah Morr to Lasbela.

Talking to the media, the governor said that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan was taking a special interest in the progress and development of Karachi as its development would contribute to the country's progress. He said the government was taking steps to improve the city's infrastructure on a priority basis. He said that the first Green bus would be operational in the coming few months and that would lessen the burden on the existing transport system.

Responding to a question regarding the master plan, the governor said that it was a huge project that would take some time to complete.

Ismail said that the federal government wanted to work jointly with the provincial chief minister (CM) for the development of Sindh, adding that the provincial government had also been invited to join the federal government's projects.

Ismail said, "I am in contact with the Sindh CM to make joint efforts for the prosperity of Sindh and to address PPP's [Pakistan Peoples Party] reservations."

Ismail promised that transparency would be ensured at all levels in the federal government's development schemes and that the contractors had been advised to ensure quality and transparency in the projects. The governor said that the present government has formulated various programmes which would contribute towards improvement in civic conditions.

Report sought on commercial activities under flyovers in Karachi

Ismail said that the PM, during his visit to the city on September 16, had announced the installation of three desalination plants of Rs200 million each, and had also announced the widening of Northern Bypass from a single lane to six lanes.

The governor said the government was looking for an operating partner for the Green Line mass transit project and expressed the hope that in a couple of months they would be successful in finding a good operating partner for the project after which, the project would become operational in the next six months.
