QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan has lauded the efforts of polio workers and concerned departments in the battle against the notorious polio virus, saying “we are just a few steps away” from being declared a “polio-free province”.
In his message on World Polio Day, the chief minister said, “A healthy generation can lead Balochistan towards prosperity and development. We must protect our next generation from fatal viruses, including polio.”
Kamal said in the near past, new polio cases emerged in Balochistan harming the efforts of the provincial government and international organisations in the battle against the crippling virus.
“With hard work and sincere measures, today we have stopped the polio virus from spreading,” Kamal said. “Polio workers, civil society and religious scholars have provided full support to the provincial government in the polio eradication programme.”
Lauding the assistance of UNICEF, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and other organisations for assisting the provincial government in the anti-polio drives, Kamal said, “Today we can claim that Balochistan has controlled the spread of polio virus and we are close to be declared a polio-free province of Pakistan.”
The CM urged all parents to have their children administered anti-polio drops so they could enjoy a bright future.
