Hospitals ‘will get funds on performance basis’

Finance minister says health among top priorities of govt

Balochistan Finance Minister Arif Jan Muhammad Hassani has said that provision of health facilities to the people is one of the top priorities of the provincial government.

Addressing a meeting on Friday, the minister said that funds would be allocated on the basis of performance.

He told the meeting that the government had been taking measures to resolve problems in government hospitals. He said the government was working to ensure adequate health facilities and availability of doctors in far-flung areas so that people would not have to travel all the way to Quetta.

Speaking during the meeting, Provincial Health Minister Mir Naseebullah Marri said that hospitals should inform the government about their problems, adding that the government would take steps to resolve them.

Quetta Kidney Centre Head Prof Kareem Zarkoon briefed the meeting about the performance of the centre. He said staff at the kidney centre was working in three shifts round the clock to provide quality services.

According to Prof Zarkoon, more than 50 patients undergo dialysis at the centre daily while 500 patients were treated in the OPD.  The cost of treatment at the centre is high while there are insufficient resources.

No salaries ‘without federal support’

The health minister assured resolution of the issues pointed out by Prof Zarkoon.

The meeting was also attended by the secretary finance, the secretary health and other health officials.
