Wish to work with Fawad Khan, says Parineeti Chopra

Actor and her 'Namaste London' co-star Arjun Kapoor talk ban on Pakistani artists in India

It has been almost two years since the Indian government imposed a ban on Pakistani artists working in Bollywood. While artist across the border have a divided opinion on the subject, there are some who feel cultural exchange is the way forward for any entertainment industry.

The latest celebrities to jump onto the bandwagon are Namastay England actors Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor. In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, the star duo condemned the ban on local artists. Their latest venture directed by Vipul Shah features two tracks composed by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Atif Aslam.

Talking about how the decision of roping in Pakistani singers might irk some cinemagoers in India, Arjun said, “I don’t think the audience is ever going to judge a song based on the nationality of the singer. That is the beauty of India. We are an open-minded country. Certain sections are allowed to have an opinion. There's nothing wrong with that but that doesn't make it right."

Parineeti responded, "I don't see any reason in banning them. I don't think they're eating up our offers by coming to India."

Arjun continued, "They're fantastic artists. They have been allowed to sing by the industry. It's not like they're stepping into someone else's shoes. We're not bringing them here to get anyone else thrown out of the proportion."

Recalling an interview the starlet participated in with her Kill Dil co-star Ali Zafar, Parineeti commented, "When you meet him, you will never know Ali is from a different country until he tells you." She then added that India attracts global talent and there is nothing wrong with it.

"I personally do not agree with this ban on Pakistani artists. I wish I could work with Ali again. I wish I could work with Fawad. He would be such a great hero in our industry. He is so loved here," she said.

Expressing immense displeasure over the ban on Pakistani artists, Parineeti is glad she got the opportunity to work with the Teefa In Trouble star in Kill Dil.

"I find it so sad that only Pakistani artists have been banned. It's unfair. Then we shouldn't have any workers coming in from any other countries as well," added the Golmaal Again actor.

"The political circumstances are very unfortunate. But here's the thing; we are artists and we can't look at the bigger picture. I mean we have to understand that there are a lot of complications that the government is dealing with," concluded Parineeti. "But at a human level, we can only hope, wish and pray that the situation only gets better."
