A midwife allegedly threw a newborn baby girl into a dustbin after her family failed to provide celebratory sweets to staff of the Rural Health Centre in Daira Deen Panah of Muzaffargarh district.
The family of the newborn protested outside the health facility and demanded the deputy commissioner take action over the matter.
Rasheed Rajput, the father of the newborn baby girl named Shaheen, told The Express Tribune that midwife Razia Bibi approached them and demanded money and sweets to celebrate the birth.
He added that he gave the woman some money, but she demanded more. “As a result, an argument took place and the midwife left, hurling abuses at us and the child,” he revealed.
Rasheed maintained that after some time, the family heard the cries of the newborn from a dustbin. He mentioned that his daughter was bleeding and suffered bruises because of syringes and broken pieces of glasses in the dump. He accused Razia Bibi of throwing the infant into the dustbin in a bid to take revenge over the matter.
After the incident, doctors provided treatment to the child who was stated to be in stable condition.
Meanwhile, the infant’s father alleged that doctors discharged his wife and daughter from the hospital immediately after they lodged a protest. He demanded that authorities take action against such acts on the part of the hospital staff.
