Govt allocates over Rs112 billion to Punjab police department
Punjab Emergency Service will get Rs1 billion for development budget

An amount of at least Rs112.234 billion has been allocated for the Punjab Police Department by the newly incumbent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in the budget for the remaining eight months of the fiscal year 2018-19.
As much as Rs38.245 billion was allocated for the department in the mini-budget from July-October presented by the interim Punjab government. Last year, the revised budget allocation was Rs101.021 billion.
The government has specified Rs3.4 billion for the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) as the development budget. The spending will be made for making operational PSCA project in Kasur and expansion of PPIC3 to other cities of Punjab.
The budget also included a spending of Rs2.340 billion for 202 ongoing and six new schemes of the Police Department for the fiscal year 2018-19.
In the budget, the employees' related expenditures included Rs94.750 billion. In the interim budget 2018, it was Rs31.919 billion. In 2017-2018, at least Rs81.401 billion was allocated for the purpose. Over Rs49.496 billion has been allocated under the head of “pay”.
As much as Rs45.254 billion will be spent on allowances and Rs11.992 million as operating expenses. Under the head of repairs and maintenance, Rs1.216 billion has been specified.
The government has allocated Rs10.331 billion for jails and convict settlements in the budget. Last year, the allocation was of Rs9.224 billion.
For the working of Civil Defence, at least Rs888.513 million has been allocated. In the mini-budget 2018-2019, it was Rs296.171 million while it was Rs919.117 million was allocated during the year 2017-18.
The government has specified Rs1 billion for the development budget for Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122). Out of this Rs1 billion, Rs980 million have been specified for ongoing schemes and Rs20 million for new schemes. The new schemes included the establishment of community emergency response teams across Punjab at UC level with an allocation of Rs80 million, extension of Rescue 1122 services at UCs Barthi and Fazal Katch tehsil Taunsa with Rs40 million, at Zahir Pir, Tehsil Khanpur, district Rahim Yar Khan with Rs20 million. An amount of Rs10 million has been allocated for clearance of liabilities and completion of incomplete and unfunded schemes of the emergency service in Khanewal, Sheikhupra.
The ongoing schemes included the establishment of emergency service in 18 tehsils of Punjab (phase-II), emergency service at tehsils Hassan Abdal and Jand district Attock, Rescue 1122 centres at Shadbagh, Mustafabad Kasur, tehsils covering under DDP Schemes in 10, new station at Nazir Garden opposite Journalist Colony, Wagah Lahore, new rescue station at Bedia Road Lahore, new rescue station at Maraka, Lahore, new rescue station at sub-tehsil Headquarters, Vehova (Taunsa Sharif) DG Khan and strengthening of the Emergency Services Academy.
