LAHORE: The service delivery system will be improved in order to cater to the issues and complaints of the public, said the newly-appointed Punjab Inspector General of Police Amjad Javed Saleemi.

He expressed these views while taking charge of his office and talking to the media at the central police office. DIG Establishment Babar Bakht Qureshi and other officials were also present on the occasion.

He said police service centers of all districts across the province will be interlinked with the help of modern software so that residents of a district may easily get character certificates, registration of tenancy, a copy of FIRs and more than 13 other facilities.

He went on to say that comprehensive refresher courses and training workshops will be organised to enhance the efficiency of the police force in all districts. The IGP added 10% of the force shall remain engaged in some activity or training so that officers and officials, with the help of modern policing, may serve the public in a better way.

Saleemi said any delay in the registration of FIRs at police stations shall not be tolerated. He revealed that the inspection branch of the central police office would be transformed into an internal accountability unit to improve effective supervision of matters related to discipline, he added.

He further said resource management centres will be established in all districts, while the land mafia and antisocial elements will not be spared. He continued that aggrieved persons should be dealt with in a courteous manner at police stations to ensure that their issues were resolved. The officer stressed that criminals and enemies of public wealth and lives should be dealt with an iron hand.

Saleemi worked as IGP Sindh, CCPO Lahore and additional Punjab Highway Patrol. He also served at other several field postings during his policing career.
