ISLAMABAD:
Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP), striving hard to manage smooth flow of traffic in Islamabad, has recommended construction of Ring Road on Grand Trunk (GT) Road from Sang Jani or Tarnol to Rawat “T” Cross, avoiding capital city area on a top priority basis.  It is a fact that heavy vehicles such as trucks and tankers do create problems for other vehicles on Islamabad Highway. There are serious traffic jams between Gulberg and Soan Garden and traffic congestion can be lowered through construction of ring road on  GT road. Official sources on Monday said it is bad luck for Islamabad that since its declaration as Capital district, there has been no Ring Road to pass heavy traffic as well as traffic proceeding to Lahore via Gujjar Khan, Jehlum. Due to which all traffic piles up from Expressway to Rawat “T” cross. The Highway has been declared a signal corridor from Faisal Masjid to Koral and vehicles start piling up in five lanes at high speed up to Koral. After Gulberg, the five lanes shrink to two lanes, causing traffic jams and hindering smooth of flow of traffic.
