QUETTA: The Pakistani authorities on Monday opened the Friendship Gate with Afghanistan in Chaman for travellers, but kept trade activities suspended.
The Friendship Gate was closed on Sunday after Afghan security forces tried to stop border fencing along the Pakistani strip using abusive words. The immoral act led to an exchange of fire between the Pak-Afghan border guards.

Pak-Afghan border crossing at Chaman, Kharlachi closed for two days amid polls

The Pakistani border forces on Monday allowed pedestrians to cross the border on humanitarian grounds but trade activities, including supply for NATO forces, remained suspended for the second day.
Local Journalist based in Chaman said, “The Pakistani officials have allowed pedestrians, especially women, children and aged people, who were stranded on both sides due to clashes, to cross the border.
“Despite Pakistan’s goodwill gesture of allowing pedestrians to cross over, the Afghan forces were adamant, but later allowed the people to cross the border.”
Pakistan has been facing acts of provocation by Afghanistan over border fencing. The Pakistan Army started fencing its border to prevent terrorists and smugglers from entering the country.
No discussion over the recent border clashes has taken place between officials of both the countries. Hundreds of trucks are stranded on both sides of the border as trade activities have been suspended.
