KARACHI: All parcels and letters sent to government organisations and departments will be checked by the Bomb Disposal Squad and sniffer dogs, a according to a notification issued on Wednesday.

The notification by Farid Ahmed Khan, director operations of the Crisis Management Cell, was issued in reaction to intelligence agency reports claiming that important officials can be sent bombs in the post. The cell has also directed for security to be beefed up outside government departments in all the four provinces.

According to intelligence reports, al Qaeda, the Indian intelligence agency RAW and Afghan extremist forces have planned to launch attacks in Pakistan and their main targets are government officials and key political figures.

Provincial governments, the Rangers and the police have been asked to send all the parcels to the recipients after thorough checking.
