The whirlwind romance of pop superstar Ariana Grande and SNL cast member Pete Davidson has abruptly ended as the duo have called off their engagement, according to TMZ.
This news comes shortly after Grande’s team announced the singer would be taking time away from the public eye after an especially difficult year and the sudden death of her ex, Mac Miller, last month.

The break-up between Grande and Davidson was mutual, according to a report in the publication, with a Grande source telling People that the whirlwind romance—which began in May and moved into engagement by June—was “way too much too soon” for both of them. “It’s not shocking to anyone.”
As of Sunday, photos of Davidson still pepper Grande’s Instagram account. The singer has been lying low for some time now, though, as she processes not only Miller’s death, but also the ongoing PTSD she has suffered since the bombing at her Manchester concert in 2017.

Both Davidson and Grande cancelled a planned appearance at the Emmys at the beginning of the September, with Grande’s team issuing this statement, “Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much needed time to heal and mend. She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones and work on new music without deadline. She thanks her fans for their understanding.”

Grande then skipped a planned appearance on the season premiere of Saturday Night Live.
But though she was absent from the episode, Davidson kept her name alive; the show based not one but three separate gags on their relationship, including an appearance on Weekend Update in which Davidson controversially joked about replacing her birth control with Tic Tacs - and their inevitable break-up.
