KARACHI: Thailand’s Namchok Tantipokhakul kept his lead in the third day scoring five-under-par (67) to top the leaderboard with a three-day aggregate of 12-under-par (204) at UMA-CNS Open Golf Championship underway at the Karachi Golf Club on Saturday.

As the final round appraches on Sunday, the Thai’s haven’t left the top positions in the championship. Tantipokhakul leading from day one, struck an eagle on the 11th hole while scored five birdies and two bogeys to end with five-under on the third day.

He is followed by his country counterpart Jakraphan Premsirigorn, who was at the same score line on day two, struck five birdies and a bogey to end up with four-under-par (68) to finish round three with an aggregate of 11-under-par (205).

Following him is Thai Tirawat Kaewsiribandit at nine-under-par (207) on third spot. Pakistan’s Muhammad Munir was able to score par (72) to end up with six-under-par (210) and is on the sixth spot.

Paksitan’s number one golfer Muhammad Shabbir who recently won the CNS Open Golf last week was not able to impress the local crowd present at the course. He scored one-under-par (71) on the third day and is on number 13 with an aggregate of four-under-par (212) along with Matloob Ahmed (212).

The last day will be an exciting round to watch as Pakistani golfers will have to hit some eagles and birdies to climb up a spot while the Thai’s will be put in best to keep the lead in the $300,000 championship sponsored by United Marine Agency (UMA).

Shabbir said that he has not been able to keep the focus on the third day. “My aim was to score at least six-under to catch up with the Thai golfers. But I started off bad and that start reflected on the other holes. This was the worse day off the three day of championship. I have to get up on the last day and claim one of the top positions.”

Shabbir who is on four-under will have to strike the last round with at least 10-under to finish in top positions, while Munir who is on six-under has more chances if he score some eagles and birdies and avoid bogeys on the last day.

The last day will be followed by a closing and prize distribution ceremony, before the international players leave for their respective countries.
