Rawalpindi Bench: LHC orders removal of encroachment within a week
Justice Lodhi expresses indignation at municipal bodies’ inefficiency
RAWALPINDI:
The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench on Friday directed the officials of district administration and cantonment boards to remove encroachments in the city and cantonment areas within one week and submit their reports to the court on the next date of hearing on October 19.
The LHC Justice Ibadur Rehman Lodhi passed this order in a petition filed by Anwar Dar and expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the city's municipal bodies and cantonments for their inefficiency in removing encroachments.
During the hearing, Justice Ibadur Rehman Lodhi asked the officials of Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantonments Boards whether they could drive in Tench Bhatta Bazar in the presence of encroachments. The officials gave a clear negative response.
Justice Ibadur Rehamn said that encroachments in the areas of Commercial Market, Tench Bhatta, City Sadder Road, Dhoke Syeda, Raja Bazzar, Chungi No 22 and other areas still exist and concerned departments failed to remove them. He said that as the Punjab government has started an operation against the encroachers in the province. “Is Rawalpindi not part of the province?” he questioned.
On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Umer Jhangir, Mayor Sardar Naseem, Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) CEO Sibtain Raza, Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) Additional CEO Naveed Nawaz and other officials of the anti-encroachment departments of both Cantonment Boards were present.
Earlier, the Lahore High Court (LHC), Rawalpindi Bench on October 10 sought a reply from the Deputy Commissioner, City Police Officer, Mayor Municipal Corporation, chief executive officers of Rawalpindi and Chaklala cantonment boards and Chief Officer District Rawalpindi for not removing encroachments.
