LAHORE:
Taxpayers must meet their national obligation by paying taxes on time to jack up the tax-to-GDP ratio which is direly needed for progress and prosperity of the country.

This was crux of speeches delivered at a seminar on “Filing of Tax Return” at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Commissioner Income Tax Fizza Batool presided over the seminar.

Batool said the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) was working to establish close liaison with the business community and was taking all possible measures to build trust.

She said the filing of tax return would become compulsory for everyone, adding the filing of tax return was a must for the purchase of new vehicles and property worth more than Rs4 million.

She said the FBR considered businessmen as partners and not adversaries, adding the government needed revenues to run its affairs smoothly. The commissioner also gave a presentation and replied to the queries raised by the seminar participants.

LCCI Senior Vice President Khawaja Shahzad Nasir and Vice President Fahimur Rehman Sehgal appreciated the initiative of the commissioner and called the seminar very beneficial for the business community.

They said taxpayers could get rid of various difficulties by filing tax returns. “By doing this, they can manage their businesses in a better way.”

The LCCI office-bearers were of the view that the FBR had given the biggest facility to the taxpayers by introducing the online system for filing tax returns.

“Now businessmen can file their returns while sitting in their offices,” they said and urged the FBR to organise training workshops throughout the country. Such initiatives would prove useful in the drive for broadening the tax net, they said.
