ISLAMABAD: The US dollar, pound sterling and several foreign currencies are being smuggled on a massive scale through Iran land route, it was revealed on Tuesday.
The federal government after obtaining data of the people travelling abroad via the land route has initiated the investigation.
According to the documents available with The Express, the federal government has obtained particulars along with the record of travellers who have paid several visits to Iran within a span of four months.
According to the documents, the Integrated Border Management System of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has sent a detailed list of 100 people travelling to Iran through the Taftan border crossing to the finance ministry and the FBR.

The 21-page report contains passport and CNIC numbers of the frequent travellers through this route. In addition, several particulars have been also been provided.
The report suggested them to compare the particulars of those people with the data and record available with the FBR to see how many of them pay income tax returns; how many of them possess NTS numbers, in addition to their asset details as mentioned in their income tax returns.
According to the available documents, a complete list along with the particulars of the people travelling to Iran through the Taftan border crossing from April 15, 2018 to July 17, 2018 has been sent to the finance ministry, the FBR and other government institutions.

The report revealed that Akhtar Khan had travelled fourteen times to Iran via the land route.
