Facebook fiasco

June 02, 2010

KARACHI: This is with reference to Fasi Zaka’s “Facebook fiasco – II” (June 2). What he has written are exactly my thoughts. I didn’t want to go anywhere near those pages or sites. It is up to us to choose and we all should have a sense of right and wrong. This is exactly what I’d felt when around 20 years ago on a visit to Jakarta I noticed that although the bars and pubs were open to all, only non-Muslims walked through the door. Now Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world and they are disciplined about their behaviour and ways of living.

In Pakistan we purport to be so close to our religion and yet we need a state ban on alcohol to enforce that discipline, and of course there are ways found to negate that as well.
