The hints about Game of Thrones’ final season continue to spill out, with star Peter Dinklage telling Entertainment Tonight that season eight’s finale will give Tyrion Lannister a lovely end.
But even that doesn’t mean Tyrion will necessarily make it out alive. "It ends beautifully for my character," said Dinklage, "Whether it be tragic or not."
"There are no better writers in television than Dan Weiss and David Benioff," he continued. "They ended [the show] brilliantly."
Dinklage sounded a more optimistic note than his co-star Sophie Turner, who told IGN last month that she predicts the ending will be divisive.
"I think a lot of fans will be disappointed and a lot of fans will be over the moon," she said. "I think it will be really interesting to see people’s reactions.”
Kit Harrington seemed much on the same page, comparing Game of Thrones to other legendary shows that didn’t wrap up with tidy endings. "My favorite TV shows are Sopranos, Breaking Bad, and The Wire," he told MTV News. "And they all ended in a way that didn’t satisfy you.
"I think a TV series that’s spanned eight, nine years is an incredibly difficult thing to end," he continued. "I think not everyone’s going to be happy, you know, and you can’t please everyone."
