FAST-NUECS convocation: ‘Human resource capital provides competitive edge’

Taimur Saleem Jhagra says well-trained professionals an asset of the country in today’s competitive world

PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Finance Taimur Saleem Jhagra on Saturday said educated and well-trained human resource capital will provide Pakistan a competitive advantage in today’s globalised world.

He said the country needs seats of higher learning like FAST-University are producing professional who will add to the dearly needed human capital of the country.

Jhagra was addressing the 56th convocation of FAST National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (FAST-NUCES) at Peshawar campus.

He applauded the varsity for its unwavering efforts to instil technical competencies in students of the province and Pakistan in its allied five campuses.

The minister emphasised the importance of youth in development of Pakistan and highlighted the endeavours of current government in planning aimed welfare of youth.

He stressed importance of challenging the existing societal narrative and discourse urging students to avoid stereotype thinking.

He said challenges are many and manifold adding we need to engage all stakeholders including teachers, universities, government and students to overcome hurdles.

A total of 146 graduates from Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Management Sciences disciplines were awarded degrees in the ceremony.

FAST-NUCES Rector Prof Ayub Alvi awarded medals to position holders of 2014-2018 batch.

Prof Alvi stressed on the importance of higher education and role of graduates in economic development of countries. He said that FAST pioneered development of IT industry in Pakistan by offering the country's first undergraduate programme in Computer Science.

Department of Electrical Engineering awarded Muhammad UsamaLodhi with gold medal, Talal Mehmood silver medal, and Muhammad Hamza Khan bronze medal.

In FAST School of Management BBA Honors Programme gold, silver and bronze medals went to Neelam Nawaz, Sania Amir Khan and Rafia Anum respectively.

In Computer Sciences, Hafiz Muhammad Bilal Zaib, Muhammad Mustafa and Sana Riaz received gold, silver and bronze medals.

Among 146 graduating students, 66 were awarded degrees in BS Electrical Engineering, 61 in BS Computer Science and six in Business Administration (BBA). Nine MS scholars in Electrical Engineering and four PhD scholars in mathematics also received their degrees.
