‘Local govt meant to resolve civic issues at people’s doorstep’

The minister appointed focal persons in every union council for implementation of the programme

Punjab Minister for Industries and Trade Mian Aslam Iqbal has said the government would give an effective local government system which would help solve people’s problems at their doorsteps.

Speaking to the chairmen, vice chairmen and councillors of various union councils on Saturday, he said those who ruled Punjab for consecutive 10 years, did nothing for the development of the province and prosperity of the people. He was of the view that resources were wasted on such projects that provided no relief to the people. “The former rulers looted the public money in the name of development projects. However, in ‘new Pakistan’, no one will dare to plunder the hard-earned money of the taxpayers,” he remarked.

“The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government,” he said, “is committed to providing the clean environment to masses as it played a pivotal role in establishing a healthy society.”

The provincial minister said green and clean Punjab programme has already been initiated. The government would give such an effective local government system which would help solve people’s problems at their doorsteps. The representatives of the local government system would lend a hand in making the environment clean.


“Good results can only be achieved from the programme of green and clean Punjab with the cooperation of people. When we will work with the approach for the welfare of the society, the situation will be improved,” he said.

Announcing a two-week cleanliness drive, the minister said he would personally monitor the implementation of cleanliness program in his constituency.

He also appointed focal persons in every union council for implementation of the programme. Several proposals were given by the representatives of the local government regarding cleanliness programme. The officers of solid the waste management department were also present on the occasion.
