CAS students: Neem Tree music school puts on show

100 students play the tabla, violin and xylophone in impromptu session.

KARACHI:

Kindergarten students of the Centre of Advanced Studies (CAS) showed off their musical talent to parents, friends and family at the school’s campus on Friday.

The children put up the show after being trained by the school’s sister concern, The Neem Tree Music School.

Parents came to watch their children play different instruments including xylophones, violins and tablas.

Around 50 children were in the Instrument Appreciation Programme who performed. The other 50 students danced to the beat.

They were all divided into six groups who played their ‘gigs’.

The kindergarten students were assisted by Abdul Aziz Kazi, who played different percussion instruments, Ahsan Bari who was on the vocals and the guitar and Faisal Gill, the host of the event, who took his turn at the cello, violin, the tablas, the shaker and many other instruments around him.

The theme of the evening was Sufi and spontaneous music. That is why all the performances were impromptu.

“We are here to celebrate a musical journey” explained Gill. “These children have, in a small way, been exposed to tolerance and harmony through music,” he said proudly.

An hour-long flawless exhibit of Sufi melodies by the young performers captivated everyone.
