The Corner: Sahar Noon

Sahar Noon shows us around her favourite space

October 08, 2018

NCA graduate, interior designer and a mother of two, Sahar Noon shares with us some interesting details about her work. The passion to recreate for Sahar started at a young age. From her enduring interest in art to the elements she likes to work with the most; Sahar reveals how art and interior designing are a huge part of her personality

What inspired you to lean towards art?

I have grown up with awe-inspiring creative individuals and so design and aesthetics come naturally. I love antiques and my mum used to laugh at me whenever something caught my eye, even if it was a useless broken lamp, I’d still turn it into a DIY chandelier or side table whenever I could work on it.

How did your career in interior designing begin?

I was trained in art. Most of the furniture designing started as home projects for me but later on developed into interior projects for clients.

What is home interior to you?

Home interior is pretty much like your most favourite outfit, reflecting your individual style and most importantly how comfortable you feel in it. That intrinsic style in turn gives way to your individual vibe, which reflects your home environment. A nest is your natural habitat, a space that should be soothing and calming. It will reflect your heart and personal style and should put a smile on your face when you enter your space at the end of the day.

What should one expect while working on designing a home’s interior?

While designing a home’s interior, one shouldn’t feel compelled to have a finished product standing in front of you overnight. Things have to come in accord on their own. One can’t buy everything at once and make a home space look lived in. Things have to evolve overtime to give it that homely vibe. Truth be told, our home started looking lived in many months after we moved in. There was never any preconceived thought behind the design. It evolved over time to truly reflect our personalities.

Do you have a display wall for your paintings in your house?

My paintings line up in a cluster on my gallery wall. I have mostly used colourful oils, water colours and charcoal sketches in various sizes for the painting that I have in my house. They are quite different from one another yet come together in happy harmony.

How would you describe your living space in a few lines?

My husband and I are both very homely and we love spending time relaxing at home so our space reflects who we are, it is eclectic and vibrant, warm and loving. While one corner might be completely different from another, it all just comes out well balanced and gels together aesthetically. There are rustic vibes to the house with a classic blend; we have two kids who are majority of the shareholders of our lounge space so it’s extremely comfortable, kid friendly and an easy space so to speak!

What is one thing that you can’t go wrong with while decorating your home space?

Industrial elements always look more effective against a high polished space; the rustic charm always compliments its opposing elements. There’s nothing like brightly patterned rugs against symmetrical lines or stripes against prints, combining patterns give me so much joy.

Saira | 5 years ago | Reply There is no harmony and matching in any anything, just random neelam ghur stuff being spread everywhere. Too crowded, busy look and big prints-i would never want my space to be so messsy and dark colored.
